Abby Lingle is a potter who lives in her hometown of Princeton MN. She creates handmade functional and decorative pottery out of porcelain clay which are meant to be a part of your everyday use. She creates both wheel thrown and slab work giving her a wide range of pottery products to fit your indiviual tastes! Each piece is handmade and glazed, creating unique individual works of art

Abby first fell in love with clay at the age of 15 while in high school.  Abby continued her education at Concorida College in Moorhead MN where she earned her BA in Pre-Professional Studio Art with an emphasis in ceramics.  While she was there, she was a speaker at the Art and Philosophy forum, participated in various student shows where she earned the merit and senior purchase awards.

After college, Abby worked in the studio of Minneapolis potter Ernest Miller.  While there she learned a lot and participated in Art-Attack and Art-Awhirl art shows.

In the fall of 2006 Abby opened her own studio in her hometown of Princeton MN.  All of Abby's work is made with a high quality porcelain clay and finished in a cone 6 oxidation firing.  Since opening her studio Abby has participated in art shows and fairs throughout Minnesota.  She has also done outdoor art shows in Colorado and North Dakota.

Abby has also taught beginning ceramics classes at her studio.  She enjoys teaching others about clay and sharing her love of art.

Artist Statement

Working with clay calms my soul, letting it sing and dance as it is released in forms otherwise unexpressed.

I enjoy the earthiness of clay, getting dirty to transform something crude and natural into something strong, elegant and even useful. I am able to express myself through controlled, strong vessels and their unblemished canvases, making them my own through embellishments and flare. Inspired by Art Nouveau, I find pleasure in creating classic, simple and smooth forms that harmonize with moving, free-flowing lines of slip trailing and intricate carvings. Allocating space, finding balance and unity in a piece brings out an inner beat that makes me dance.

My work gives me a sense of power and accomplishment as I convert drawings, daydreams and visions into reality. I enjoy striving for perfection in my vessels, yet relish the subtle differences, inconsistencies and variations a handmade piece brings. I try to let intuition take control and incorporate coincidences and the unexpected in an attempt to let each individual piece vocalize its full potential.

Inspired by the idea that art can and should be a part of our everyday lives, I create both decorative and functional works. Each piece has its own end purpose, and I strive in every piece to let that inner song--and my own--out into the world.
